CMS Spent the Week Adding Paperwork
Seven days on the CMS docket: 22 HCPCS codes pick up a face-to-face requirement, eight pick up prior authorization, and the FY2027 SNF and psych final rules landed. Every change, the codes it touches, and the dates that start the clock.
When CMS built the DMEPOS Master List back in November 2019, the pitch was housekeeping. Several scattered lists became one library, effective January 1, 2020, and the agency was clear that shelving an item there meant nothing by itself.
Only the items CMS pulls off the shelf and names in a Federal Register notice become a condition of payment.
The library now holds 550 items. On Thursday, CMS pulled eight of them.
That notice, plus two FY2027 final rules that published this morning, is the week.
Eight codes off the shelf
CMS-6109-N (91 FR 47972) does three things at once, and the ordering matters because each list feeds the next.
The Master List gains 20 codes and loses none, going from 530 to 550.
The face-to-face and written-order-prior-to-delivery list gains 22, from 83 to 105. The Required Prior Authorization List gains 8, from 74 to 82 (chart below).
